This Suburban is stuck on the road, midway through a 3 point turn, crippled by the first snow of the season.

Not being dumb is more importanter.

Thats a situation the driver shouldn’t have put themself in.

They could also not know how to turn 4wd on. Even with summer tires that shouldn’t be enough to get stuck.

A few days ago I almost missed work because somebody in a suburban somehow managed to fly off the road, through a guardrail, through a sidewalk handrail, through a fence, and knock over a telephone pole. Seemingly just because it was raining.

But ma Truck has 4WD?!?!?

I should be invincible! My husband is going to be trading this in on a tank when he gets home from his business trip.

It might be a 2WD Suburban.

Maybe it’s 2-wheel-drive. My uncle has a 2-wheel-drive Suburban and it is useless in the snow.

I believe it, 5,000+lbs of vehicle takes a ways to stop and with the cost of new rubber equaling a 1/4 of the value of these older SUVs even rain can make for a mess

I suppose it’s possible, this is NH so most vehicles are sold up here with the winter package of 4WD/AWD and heated seats, but certainly could have come from somewhere else.

Also this is Texas, so whenever there is inclement weather drivers either speed, or come to a complete stop. Last year we had a really bad fog, and people were driving over the limit with their lights off. I saw three collisions on my way to the airport. At least two cars appeared totalled. And still the people behind me wouldn’t turn their lights on.

Not a Suburban but still relevant. You can have 4WD/AWD and it’s still useless if you’re a moron.

Two wheel drive and worn all season tires. That being said, my old beater 2WD truck does just fine in the snow and ice.

Good advice. Have a pic of a Suburban that was dumb enough to drive down a flooded street, but smart enough to give up and park on the median until the waters receded:

The RWD ‘05 4Runner I had on really good all-seasons did pretty good during my first winter in Illinois (which also happened to be that really terrible one about 3 years ago).

My FR-S does amazingly on snow tires. RWD is way more fun in the winter, and perfectly safe/capable with the right tires.

Gotta be. Even with pretty worn tires, it should be able to get out of that in 4WD.

My mom had a 1998 and a 2004...those things were indestructible in the snow.

The 2004 was a Z71 pack so it had a few extras but it also helped that my mom wasn’t an absolute N00B when driving, like many parents with Suburbans are.

I saw a Honda Fit so far off the road this morning, my only theory is that the guy over cooked the turn, hit the grass, then decided he was in a tractor pull and had to see how far into the field he could make it.

No, GMT900 Burbs are around 5500lbs 2wd and 5800lbs 4wd.

Unless it’s a 2WD it would need some seriously bald tires to get stuck there.

I drive a quad cab GMT900 half ton, which is essentially the same as a burb and you’d be surprised by how little they weigh. Trucks are so bloody huge now size wise but the weight didn’t go up proportionally. Guess they are just less dense now. At this point you could make a joke about the generalized group of suburban/truck drivers, but as I am one, I’ll refrain.

That’s actually depressing. My car only weighs like 780 lbs less than a suburban. Though it’s still very fast.

I was wrong, I had based my figure off of a 3500 HD, it’s actually only like 5600 lbs.

2wd burbans in the snow are good WITH SNOW TIRES, they have lots of weight over the rear axle. I had a 2007 Frontier that was RWD, I put 250lbs of sand bags in the box with snow tires on.

Nah... That’s almost flat! He’s just on shit tyres. Some years ago, I reversed my mustang into about two foot of snow, and towed an A4 Quattro out. That’s the difference in summer tyres, and a set of Nokian Hakkapelliita studded winters. Foxbody mustangs are not ideal winter cars. (They are fun though)
